Eddies Face Islanders for the Second Time in Less Than a Week

FC Edmonton News Release

BayamÃ"n, PR. (July 6, 2012) - The Eddies move on to Puerto Rico for the last game in a three-game, six-day stretch, the last two of which have been on the road.

FC Edmonton was handed a 1-0 loss on Independence Day in San Antonio and the team continues to struggle on the offensive side of the ball. The Eddies have been held scoreless over the past four games but while the goals have been hard to come by, defensively the team has been outstanding.

Over that same four game stretch, the Eddies have only conceded four goals. A stat that defender Paul Hamilton has a lot to do with.

"We have been doing well defensively this season having only allowed 16 goals in 14 games," Hamilton said. "But the only stat that really matters is wins and losses. We need to start adding to the win column. We're just at the halfway point now so there's lots of soccer left to play."

The Eddies sit in seventh place in the standings with 12 points but defensively they're near the top of the table when it comes to goals allowed behind league leaders San Antonio (12) and second place Puerto Rico (14).

Offense has been a different story for the squad. They've found the back of the net 12 times this year, the lowest tally in the league so far.

The Eddies are facing a familiar foe in Puerto Rico on Saturday however. The two teams faced off against each other at Clarke less than a week ago and played to a 0-0 draw. The same result occurred when the Eddies travelled to the island in April.

This time the visitors are hoping to fly home with three points secured.
