Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release
FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (JUNE17, 2011) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers have an early start when they travel to Montreal this Saturday, June 18th at 2:30p.m. for a road game against the Montreal Impact. The Strikers have momentum going into this road game with consecutive home wins against the Puerto Rico Islanders and the NSC Minnesota Stars. The Strikers six goals in those two games have kick-started the offense going into this brief road stint.
About the Strikers
The Fort Lauderdale Strikers are riding a four-game unbeaten streak since their May 11th matchup against the Carolina RailHawks. The Strikers offense has come alive the last two games, scoring six goals from five different players. In addition, the defense has held strong for the Strikers, providing a stingy back line to help the squad earn eight points in four games. The Strikers captain, Aaron Hohlbein, was named NASL Defensive Player of the week. The first Striker to receive the honor. Goalkeeper Matt Glaeser leads the NASL in goals against average with a minuscule .60.
"We're expecting a tough game, we're expecting a tough environment, and we know Montreal is capable of beating anybody in our league," said head coach Daryl Shore. "We're going in there knowing we have to be at our best in order to get a result. We're going to have to count on some players who haven't played much because we have some guys who are suspended. However, we're going in with the mindset like we do with every road game and that's going in looking for some points."
About Montreal
The Montreal Impact will be looking to add a second straight win at home against the Fort Lauderdale Strikers after defeating FC Edmonton. The Impact played the Strikers earlier this season, finishing with a 0 - 0 draw May 28th in Fort Lauderdale. Montreal sits with eight points in the NASL standings and are looking to improve their record.
Goal Surge
Since the Strikers were shut out by the Atlanta Silverbacks and the Montreal Impact, the goals have come in threes. The Strikers played to a 3 - 2 victory against the Puerto Rico Islanders and a 3 - 0 shutout of the NSC Minnesota Stars. Of the six goals, five different players scored their first goals of the season. Brian Shriver recorded just the 11th multi-goal game in the NASL this season, scoring two against the Stars.
