Strikers Hire Former Fusion Star Jim Rooney

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL (February 3) -- The Strikers announced today the appointment of Jim Rooney as an Assistant Coach for the 2011 season. Per team policy terms of the contract were not disclosed.

"I can't think of anyone better to have on the coaching staff here at Strikers," states Strikers Head Coach Daryl Shore. "With his experience and knowledge of the game, our players and our future as a team altogether can be that much more potent."

Rooney began his professional career in South Florida with the Miami Fusion in the MLS. The American midfielder made 67 appearances for the club from 1999 - 2001 scoring 12 goals in the process. Rooney also spent time with the New York MetroStars (now the New York Red Bulls) and the New England Revolution. Rooney served as team captain of the Fusion during the 2000 and 2001 seasons.

"I love the atmosphere here; it is all about winning," stated Rooney. "I feel that this team has the right attitude and also shows great potential in the near future. We can now put our focus and attention towards capturing an NASL Championship."
