Streaking Hoops Too Much for Storm

The Grand Rapids HOOPS used 57 percent field goal shooting to extend their winning streak to a season-high four games as they defeated the Great Lakes Storm 120-117 Wednesday night at the Birch Run Expo Center.

The HOOPS took five of seven quarter points from their American Conference foe, further solidifying their hold on second place and the final playoff spot.

With the help of seven players scoring in double figures, Grand Rapids (17-17) reached the .500 mark for the first time since December 21 (8-8). Jerald Honeycutt continued his offensive production, leading Grand Rapids with 24 points (8-19 FG) and nine rebounds, while Immanuel McElroy added a season-high 24 points (8-10 FG). Olden Polynice (8-15 FG) also registered 17 points and a game-high ten rebounds.

Great Lakes (16-20) dropped their third straight game as they fell behind in the second quarter and were not able to regain the lead for the remainder of the game. Tyson Wheeler has an impressive showing, scoring a game-high 28 points (9-21 FG) and handed out 12 assists, while Corey Hightower also added 24 points (9-20 FG) of his own.

The HOOPS now travel to face the conference leading Rockford Lightning on Friday night at the Rockford MetroCenter. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. EST.
