Strang, Yevenko, And Teglia Earn Weekly USHL Honors

January 27, 2010 - United States Hockey League (USHL) News Release

Chicago, IL - The United States Hockey League today announced the weekly award winners for the 17th week of the 2009-10 USHL regular season.

Congratulations to forward Cody Strang of the Youngstown Phantoms, named Reebok Offensive Player of the Week; defenseman Oleg Yevenko of the Fargo Force, selected as CCM Defensive Player of the Week; and Jeff Teglia of the Omaha Lancers who earned honors as the USHL Goaltender of the Week.

Strang scored four goals over three games for the Phantoms. After scoring two goals through his first 20 games of the season, the first-year USHL forward more than doubled that total with a "natural hat trick", scoring three goals in succession during the second period of the 7-3 victory over Team USA on January 18th. The native of Madison, Wisconsin scored his three goals over a span of 4:55 which was the first hat trick in the inaugural season of the Phantoms. The 19-year-old then scored the first goal of the game in the 3-2 loss to Cedar Rapids on Saturday.

Yevenko recorded two points (1g, 1a) and a plus-two rating in the lone game for Fargo last week. After turning 19-years-old the day before, he assisted on the first goal of the game vs. Team USA. Later in the contest with his team trailing 3-2, he scored the tying goal with just over seven minutes to play in the third period. The Force would go on to win the contest 4-3 in a shootout. The 6-7, 225-pound native of Belarus is playing his first season in the USHL and has tallied six points (2g, 4a) in 32 games for the Force.

Teglia allowed just one goal over his two starts for the Lancers. He turned away all 31 shots he faced in the 7-0 victory vs. Lincoln on Friday to post his second shutout of the season. The following evening, the 18-year-old netminder made 30 saves in the 2-1 victory over Waterloo to post his League-leading 21st victory of the season. It is the third weekly award this season for the native of Bloomingdale, Illinois. Teglia currently ranks second among USHL goaltenders in save percentage (.918) and minutes played (1,732).
