Storm Win Fourth Straight with Win at Moncton

(Charlottetown, PE) The Island STORM used a big fourth quarter to pull away from the Moncton Miracles 108-93 Sunday afternoon in Moncton. The STORM outscored Moncton 41-22 in that quarter and now have won 4 in a row to push their record to 11-6 on the season, good for top spot in the Atlantic Division and tied them with Windsor and London for the most wins in the NBL Canada to date. Moncton falls to 5-11.

Nick Okorie had his best game in a STORM uniform this season finishing with 27 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds. Okorie shot 50% form the floor, 66% from behind the arc and 90% from the foul line. Mike Martin scored 15 points and pulled down 8 boards for the STORM while Billy Rush and Nick Evans each had 14 points and 9 rebounds. In fact, the STORM had 60 rebounds in the game.

Tyler Murray scored 20 points to lead Moncton while Zach Atkinson earned a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

The STORM go back on the road this Thursday when they visit Harbour Station in Saint John for a game against the Mill Rats at 7pm before returning home to play the Mississauga Power this coming Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Eastlink Centre.

Meanwhile, The National Basketball League of Canada announced that Kenny Jones of the Saint John Mill Rats has been named Player of the Week for the week ending January 4, 2015. This is the first time this season that a member of the Mill Rats has earned this honour.

Jones, a 6'6" 215-pound power forward who played collegiately at Kentucky State, averaged 21.6 points per game in three contests this week, helping Saint John go 2-1 during that period. He also scored 40 points in the Mill Rats' 129-111 New Year's Day victory over Moncton.

This is the second time in Jones' career that he has claimed the Player of the Week honour; he previously won it for the week ending March 17, 2013.

Other players that were considered for Player of the Week Honours were Nick Okorie (Island Storm), Zach Atkinson (Moncton Miracles), John Hart (London Lightning) and Tony Bennett (Windsor Express).
