
Storm Washes out Hoops

The Great Lakes Storm's Corey Hightower scored 36 points in leading his team to a convincing 120-98 victory over the Grand Rapids HOOPS at the DeltaPlex Arena. Alex Scales and Jerald Honeycutt, who scored 22 and 21 points, respectively, led the HOOPS in defeat. The Storm took six of seven quarter points on the night.
Great Lakes (13-14) has now won four of the five meeting between the two teams this season. The Storm were aided to victory by the return of Jermaine Jackson as the talented point guard fell one rebounds shy of a triple-double. On the night, he scored 19 points, dished out 11 assists and grabbed nine rebounds. All-Star forward James Head also registered 18 points for Great Lakes. Grand Rapids (11-16) has now lost four of five in their current six-game home stand.
The HOOPS were outplayed from the beginning, as they struggled from the field in the first half, while Great Lakes took advantage and shot a scorching 60 percent from the field through two quarters. At the half, the Storm's lead was 61-52.
The second half was more of the same, as Hightower compiled 20 second half points and Grand Rapids was limited to just 40 percent shooting.
Kareem Reid registered 15 points and ten assists for the home team, while Kevin Simmons also notched 14 points of his own.
The HOOPS will remain home to host the Sioux Falls Skyforce on Tuesday night at the DeltaPlex. Tip off time is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
