SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm moved to 8-3 on the season after defeating the Cedar Rapids Titans 56-45 on Friday, May 18.
The first quarter would be low scoring with the Titans striking first after a six-yard touchdown pass by Jake Medlock to Javon Bell. The Storm would tie it up 7-7 after a 10-yard rushing touchdown by Marques Rodgers. The Titans would end the quarter with a 51-yard field goal by Michael Georgetti and a 7-10 lead.
Sioux Falls would score on back to back drives to begin the second quarter and take their first lead of the night 15-10. The first score would come from the Thunder Defense with a team safety and then Claude Davis would block the Titans 56-yard field goal attempt where Chad Stoterau would recover the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Cedar Rapids would answer with back to back touchdowns to retake a 15-23 lead. The Titans scored on a 16-yard touchdown pass by Jake Medlock to Marquel Wade and then a 27-yard pick six by James Calhoun. Sioux Falls would end the half with a 18-23 deficit after a 19-yard field goal by Miles Bergner.
The third quarter would be a back and forth bout. The Storm would capitalize first after a three-yard quarterback keeper by Lorenzo Brown, putting the Storm on top 25-23. The Titans responded back with a one-yard quarterback keeper by Jake Medlock, catapulting the Titans to a 25-30 lead. The Storm countered with a one-yard rushing touchdown by Lorenzo Brown, giving the Storm a 32-30 lead. The Titans would end the quarter with a 32-37 lead after a 21-yard touchdown pass by Jake Medlock to Javon Bell.
The Sioux Falls Storm had a strong forth quarter beginning with a 34-yard field goal by Miles Bergner to cut the lead to 35-37.The Storm would go on to score back to back touchdowns retaking a 49-37 lead. The Storm's first touchdown came on a 21-yard touchdown pass by Lorenzo Brown to Mike Tatum and then a nine-yard rushing touchdown by Marques Rodgers. The Cedar Rapids Titans answered with a one-yard quarterback keeper by Jake Medlock, cutting the Storm's lead to 49-45. The Storm would end the game with a one-yard quarterback keeper by Lorenzo Brown, bringing the final score to 56-45.
Storm quarterback Lorenzo Brown completed 8 out of 13 passes for 70 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Brown also had 34 rushing yards and three touchdowns. Running back Marques Rodgers garnered 111 rushing yards and two touchdowns, he also had 13 reception yards. Wide receivers Mike Tatum and Damien Ford each had a pair of receptions while Tatum had one touchdown. Defensive backs Jabari Gorman and Trey Wafford each led the Storm in tackles with seven. Linebacker Dezmon Reed had four tackles and one sack. Defensive lineman Claude Davis tallied three tackles, one sack, one pass break-up and one block.
The Sioux Falls Storm will return to action on Friday, June 1 where they will face the Green Bay Blizzard for a 7:05pm kickoff.
