Storm to Host Third-Consecutive Conference Championship

The Sioux Falls Storm will face the Green Bay Blizzard in the United Conference Championship on Saturday, June 30 at 7:05 p.m. at the Sioux Falls Arena. The Storm is coming off a 79-21 thrashing of the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks while the Blizzard defeated the Bloomington Edge 51-30 last week.

Sioux Falls Specialty Hospital is the proud sponsor of this third meeting of these two teams this season. The Storm defeated the Blizzard 73-34 in its home opener and then again in Green Bay 66-39.

Quarterback Chris Dixon was nearly flawless in the victory, completing 19 of 23 passes for 278 yards and eight touchdowns. James Terry and Carl Sims each had three receiving touchdowns, while Terry's seven catches and 135 yards led the team. Sims had six catches for 70 yards. Dixon's other two touchdowns were to Clinton Solomon, who finished the game with three receptions for 56 yards. On the ground, Brandon Walker rushed 12 times for 65 yards and three scores in his return to the Storm.

Defensively, Xavier Jordan led the team with 11 tackles (four solo), though Justin Welch, Stewart Franks, Dejuan Fulghum, Kenneth Akridge and Dan O'Keefe each had interceptions. Welch finished with nine tackles while O'Keefe added eight. On the line, Jeremiah Price had two sacks for 10 yards andfive tackles for loss for 13.5 yards. He also added five solo tackles (eight total).

The Blizzard's offense features a strong rushing attack led by LaRon Council, who rushed for over 1,000 yards this season and 102 yards on 21 attempts in last week's win. Quarterback Donovan Porterie was 9 for 12 for 96 yards and two touchdowns against the Edge, but he also rushed for three scores.

Defensively, Greg Jackson led the team with 10 tackles (all solo) with a sack and a tackle-for-loss while Aaron Moore added seven tackles (all solo).

"Green Bay is a well coached and physical team that is peaking at the right time," said Todd Tryon. "It will take our best game of the year if we expect the opportunity to defend our title."

The Storm's Chris Dixon won IFL Offensive Player of the Year earlier this week, and Blizzard head coach Robert Fuller was voted as the Adam Pringle Award winner, given to a coach who "exemplifies outstanding service and dedication to their surrounding community."

The winner of Saturday night's game will advance to the 2012 United Bowl to face the winner of Friday night's Intense Conference matchup of the Tri-Cities Fever and the Wichita Wild.
