Seattle Storm News Release

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm and the Sonics & Storm T.E.A.M. Foundation are joining the efforts of Storm center Janell Burse and thousands across the country to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina. Donations will be collected at each of the Storm's 2005 First Round home playoff games, with 100 percent of the proceeds supporting the New Orleans-based Franklin Avenue Baptist Church's hurricane relief efforts. Burse, a New Orleans native and Tulane alum, selected the recipient of the organization's combined fundraising efforts.

"My New Orleans community is in tremendous need and I truly appreciate the support of the Storm family during this challenging time for us," Burse said. "I thank the Sonics & Storm organization for arranging this donation drive and for their compassion for the victims of Hurricane Katrina."

Hurricane Katrina has ravaged the Gulf Coast in recent days, forcing the evacuation of New Orleans and leaving millions without power. Victims are also facing widespread flooding and limited shelter.

"The Storm organization recognizes its responsibility to the community, not just here in Seattle but across the country and in the communities of our players and staff," Storm COO Karen Bryant said. "We applaud Janell for taking the lead on this important cause and urge our fans to lend their support in any way they can."

Fans unable to attend Thursday's game can still contribute by mailing their donation made payable to the Sonics & Storm T.E.A.M. Foundation at 351 Elliott Ave. W., Suite 500, Seattle, WA 98119.

The Seattle Sonics & Storm manages the Puget Sound region's professional basketball franchises - the NBA's Seattle SuperSonics and the WNBA's Seattle Storm. The organization oversees all sales, marketing, finance, public relations and basketball operations for the teams. The Basketball Club of Seattle LLC owns both teams.
