Houston's Sheryl Swoopes and Detroit's Cheryl Ford Named WNBA Bud Light Peak Performers

NEW YORK, Aug. 30 - The WNBA announced today that Houston's Sheryl Swoopes and Detroit's Cheryl Ford have been named the league's 2005 Bud Light Peak Performers for scoring and rebounding, respectively.
Swoopes led the league in scoring for the second time in her career, averaging 18.6 points. The five years between scoring titles is the longest span for a WNBA player between leading the league in that category. She ranks second on the all-time list for most career points (3,894). Swoopes' career scoring average of 17.1 points is the sixth highest in WNBA history.
Ford led the WNBA in rebounding for the first time in her career, averaging 9.8 rebounds. She hold's the record for most offensive rebounds in a game with 12 and most consecutive games with 10-plus rebounds with nine. Ford's career average of 9.9 rebounds is the highest in WNBA history.
The Bud Light Peak Performers program honors the league's leading scorer and top rebounder during the regular season. Bud Light will award $12,500 each to Swoopes and Ford, with a portion of the proceeds going to a charity of their choice.
One of the founding partners of the WNBA, Bud Light is the league's official beer sponsor. The program is part of Bud Light's $100,000 commitment to WNBA players.
In addition to the $25,000 awarded to the Bud Light Peak Performers, Bud Light will award cash prizes to the players on the All-WNBA First and Second teams presented by Bud Light prior to Game 3 of the WNBA Finals on Sept. 18. Each First Team player will receive $10,000 and each Second Team player will receive $5,000.
