Storm Take down the Empire
Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm improved to 10-1 after winning against the Spokane Empire on May 14th at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center, where the Storm won 63-50.
The Empire would score first in the game when Charles Dowdell connected with Trevor Kennedy for a 19 yard pass, giving the Empire an early 0-6 lead. Sioux Falls fired back when Korey Williams ran in a six-yard touchdown, putting them in the lead at 7-6. Jefferson Hayes of Spokane scored after a two-yard pass, bringing the score to 7-14. The Storm answered back when Caleb Holley connected for a 28 yard pass, and Tyler Knight kept the momentum going with a rouge point, putting them back in the lead at 15-14. Carl Sims scored the final touchdown of the first quarter after a 17 yard pass, bringing the score to 15-20.
Opening the second quarter, Lorenzo Brown found Caleb Holley for a four-yard pass, making it a 22-20 ball game. Spokane would answer with a six-yard touchdown reception to Trevor Kennedy, and a successful two-point conversion attempt putting the Empire on top at 22-28. The Storm recaptured the lead after Caleb Holley and Lorenzo Brown connected for the third time of the night after a 24 yard touchdown pass. Sioux Falls would score again with 33 seconds left on the clock after a 16 yard touchdown pass to Mike Tatum, ending the half with the Storm leading 36-28.
It was a scoreless battle in the third quarter after the Storm picked off two of the Empire's attempts in the end zone. To begin the fourth quarter, Brandon Johnson-Farrell rushed in a 26 yard touchdown to extend the Storm lead to 42-28. The score soon became 43-34 after Charles Dowdell snuck in a one-yard rushing touchdown. Lorenzo Brown would then score after a three-yard run, bringing the score to 49-34. Carl Sims would connect with an eight-yard touchdown pass, and a successful two point conversion bringing the score to 49-42. Lorenzo Brown found Caleb Holley for the fourth time of the night after a 31 yard pass, bringing the score to 56-48. Trevor Kennedy of the Empire would score after a two-yard run, and a successful two point conversion by Jefferson Hayes to bring the score to 56-50. Mike Tatum would score after a 30 yard run with 40 seconds left, ending the game with a score of 63-50.
Lorenzo brown finished the game with 140 yards, five touchdowns, and one interception, as well as 49 rushing yards, and one touchdown. Mike Tatum finished with 49 rushing yards and one touchdown, 24 receiving yards and one touchdown. Brandon Johnson-Farrell ended with 38 rushing yards and one touchdown. Korey Williams had 20 rushing yards, and one touchdown.
Caleb Holley received for 110 yards, and scored four touchdowns. The Storm defense tailed 55 tackles, four interceptions, and three pass break-ups.
The Sioux Falls Storm will face the Green Bay Blizzard on Saturday, May 21th in Sioux Falls for a Salute to Military Night where the game will kick off at 7:05 pm.
