
Storm Signs Local Talent

MELROSE PARK, IL- Chicago Storm COO/GM Brian Loftin announced the team has come to terms with forward Benjamin "Benny" Chavollo. A Chicago Heights resident, Chavollo becomes the first player from the Storm's developmental team, Tormenta de Chicago to sign with the parent club. In 2006-07 he led Tormenta in scoring, in Tormenta's inaugural season. In accordance with club policy, terms of the contract will not be released.
Chicago Storm head coach Steve Morris was pleased with the signing. "We're very excited to have Benjamin on our active, first-team roster," he said. "Last season he trained every day with us and played with Tormenta. You could see his progress as he continued to grow as an indoor player. He's worked very hard to make the step up to the next level and I'm eager to watch his continued development."
Born in Chicago, Chavollo started his soccer career as a youth with the Park Forest Rangers. He won All-Conference honors at Bloom High School before playing with Halcones of the CLASA league. He played his college soccer at Lincoln Junior College before transferring to Concord College. Upon the dissolution of the Concord soccer program, Benjamin transferred to Francis Marion College.
"I'm so happy to be a member of the team," said Benjamin. "It's been a lot of hard work and determination to get this far. Now I'm looking forward to the start of the season and continuing to learn and improve my game."
"Benny," as he's known by his teammates, will have his first opportunity to play as a professional this Saturday, October 27th as the Chicago Storm hosts the California Cougars in the Storm's home opener. Game time is 7pm and doors open at 6pm.
The Chicago Storm is a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) since 2004. Chicago's professional indoor soccer team plays its home games at the all-new Sears Centre in Hoffman Estates with the 2007-08 season kicking off Saturday October 27th versus the California Cougars.
