Storm sign veteran lineman Tom Briggs

TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have signed free agent lineman Tom Briggs today, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced.

Briggs, a 6-foot-4, 270-pound lineman from the University of West Virginia, is an 11-year veteran of the Arena Football League. He has recorded 194 tackles, 41 sacks, and 24 receptions for 202 yards during his AFL career.

Prior to breaking into the AFL, he earned All-Big East honors as a senior with the Mountaineers. He led the team with seven sacks and was invited to play in the Blue-Gray game. He spent 1993 on the Atlanta Falcons' training camp roster and played in the Canadian Football League with the Birmingham Barracudas and the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

He started his AFL career in 1997 with the Portland Forest Dragons and spent the next season with the Anaheim Piranhas before rejoining the Forest Dragons. In 2000, he moved with the Forest Dragons as they relocated to Oklahoma. They later became the Austin Wranglers. During his time in Oklahoma he received Second Team All-Arena honors in 2000 and was named to the 2001 All-Ironman Team.

He joined the Dallas Desperados for the 2002 season and went on to become the team's all-time leader for sacks in a season with 10 and career sacks with 12.5. He garnered Lineman of the Year and First Team All-Arena honors in 2003 as well as being named to the All Ironman Team in 2003.

He then joined the Austin Wranglers in 2004 and accumulated 10.5 sacks, becoming the team's all-time leader in sacks while also setting a franchise record with 8.5 sacks in a season. He set a franchise single game record with two sacks in 2004. He also earned First Team All-Arena Honors in 2004 and was named a finalist for Lineman of the Year award for the sixth consecutive year.
