Chicago Storm News Release

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - The Chicago Storm announce the signing of defenseman Gabriel Cigliano. The Argentinean-born player joined Argentina's national futsal team for two years and also played seven years with Argentinean club team Ferro Carril Oeste. Per team policy, terms of the contract are not disclosed.

"He understands the intricacies of playing indoor soccer, the passing and the movement after you pass," Storm head coach Steve Morris said. "He knows where the net is, as well. He has the ability to come out of the back and score goals. He's a solid indoor player with a really good engine."

The Storm were interested in Cigliano, 22, after they initially drafted his older brother, Pablo Cigliano, in the fourth round (35th overall pick) of the 2007 Major Indoor Soccer League Supplemental Draft. Gabriel participated in a 12-day trial period toward the end of 2007, and Morris wanted to get him acclimated to making a transition to the MISL.

"The transition from futsal to indoor isn't always easy, though it's similar," Morris said. "There's physicality to our game that is not present in futsal. We wanted to make sure he was comfortable with the rigors of playing indoor soccer."

Cigliano will wear No. 14 for the Storm (10-5), who host the first-place Detroit Ignition (11-4) at 7 p.m. Friday at the Sears Centre Arena. Doors open at 6 p.m. The Storm look for their first victory against the Ignition this season after dropping the first two matches against them.

The Chicago Storm are members of the Major Indoor Soccer League. Storm offices are located at 5333 Prairie Stone Pkwy., in Hoffman Estates.
