Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (January 2, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm lost the game tonight against the Yakima Sun Kings 115-108 (6.0, 1.0) in double overtime to move to 11-11 on the season. They started the New Year the same way the finished it, with a loss. Yakima picked up their second road win in as many nights to improve to 5-12 on the season. The Storm is 0-6 against the Western Conference this season.

Jackie Butler and Marlon Parmer had two of the most impressive displays in the CBA this season, and it was a shame that one team had to lose. The Storm jumped out to a quick lead and they won the first quarter 26-15 behind eight points and four rebounds by Jackie Butler. It was the beginning of a huge night for Butler. The Sun Kings battled back in the second quarter as Parmer had 10 of his game-high 15 assists. The Sun Kings won the second quarter 26-20 and went into halftime down by only five. The Storm increased the lead to eight, however, Parmer had 13 points, including a 3-point play with 9 seconds remaining to give the Sun Kings the third quarter 27-25. The fourth quarter went back and forth and the Storm found themselves down by one as Parmer hit a shot with 20 seconds left in the game. Trailing 89-90, Butler was fouled and went to the line with a chance to take the lead. He made the first one and missed the second and Yakima was unable to get a shot off. Butler had 28 points and 20 rebounds at the end of regulation. The Sun Kings took two brief two point leads in the first overtime only to see the Storm answer back. Butler tied the game up with under 20 seconds left and the Sun Kings were called for an offensive foul ten seconds later. Butler was unable to get a shot off as time expired and the game headed into double overtime. Parmer proved to be too much as he scored 11 of his game-high 41 points in the second overtime to propel the Sun Kings to victory.

The Storm's next game is on Thursday, January 6th against the Michigan Mayhem. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the Birch Run Expo Center.
