Sioux Falls, SD - The Sioux Falls Storm are excited to announce the return of defensive backs Matt Hermanson, J'Vontez Blackmon and Carlton Watkins for the 2017 Indoor Football season.
Hermanson (6'0, 200) will be returning to the Storm for his third season in the Indoor Football League (IFL). During his second season with the Storm, Matt had a breakout season accumulating 109 total tackles (68 solo), 2,5 tackles for loss, four interceptions and nine pass breakups. Matt was a four-year starter at the University of Montana. He totaled 239 tackles, 121 of which were solo, five forced fumbles, three fumble recovers, and five interceptions in his career as a Grizzly.
Blackmon (6'0, 210) joins the Storm for his second season in the IFL. J'Vontez collected 69 total tackles (48 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery, four interceptions and four pass breakups during the 2016 season. He was also named IFL Special Teams Player-of-the-Week in Week 10 of the 2016 season.
Carlton Watkins (5'10, 190lbs) is entering his second season as a defensive back in IFL. During the 2016 season, Watkins tallied 55 total tackles (38 solo), 1.5 tackles for loss, three interceptions and six pass breakups. Carlton played collegiately at Tiffin University. He had 28 solo tackles with eight assisted tackles with a combined total of 36 tackles, two tackles for loss and broke up four passes during his senior season. Watkins was named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Academic team.
"These guys were difference makers last year and we are excited to have them back," said Storm General Manager Tyler Pederson. "Expect big things this season from this group."
