Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have waived quarterback Brett Deitz, wide receiver/defensive backs Lionel Green and Huey Whittaker, and linemen Ben Lynch, DeMarco McNeil and Jimond Pugh, Head Coach and Director of Football Operations Tim Marcum announced today.
"This is one of the hardest days to be a coach," Marcum said at the end of practice. "These decisions were not very easy to make, but we had a great training camp and everyone should all be proud of themselves and as a team," he added.
The roster is now cut to 28 players and must be down to a league-mandated 24 by Monday. Of the 28 players still on the roster seven are in their rookie AFL season and 17 are in their third year or less.
The 2006 Storm football season, presented by Champs Sports, gets underway January 29 versus the Philadelphia Soul (3pm, NBC, 1250AM) with the home opener on February 10 against the National Conference Champion Georgia Force.
