Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA BAY - The five-time world champion Tampa Bay Storm have re-signed free agent wide receiver Mickey Peters and released defensive back Fred Booker today, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum announced.
Peters, a 6-foot-3, 211-pound wide receiver from Texas Tech, returns to the Storm for his third season in the Arena Football League, all with Tampa Bay. He signed with the Tennessee Titans as an un-drafted free agent in April of 2004 and was released prior to the start of that season.
He joined the Storm on the practice squad in 2005. Peters began the 2006 season on the practice squad before being assigned to the active roster for the Week 10 match-up against the Utah Blaze. He finished the season with six and a half tackles, three receptions for 22 yards and one touchdown before suffering a leg injury and being placed on injured reserve.
Peters played for the Red Raiders from 2000-03 and in 2003 was a member of the first team in NCAA history to produce five players with at least 60 receptions in the same season. Originally recruited to play quarterback, the converted receiver marched into the Red Raider record books. He currently ranks second in school history in single-season touchdowns with 12, second in career touchdowns with 22, fifth for single-season receptions with 78, fifth in career receptions with 196, sixth in career yardage with 2,318 and ninth in single-season yardage with 975.
He was named third-team All-Big Twelve Conference his junior and senior seasons while earning second-team Academic All-Conference honors his freshman year. He played his prep football at Weatherford (Texas) High School where he was a two-time state hurdles champion and named Fort Worth Star-Telegram Athlete of the Year as a senior.
His uncle Jim Marcum played in the National Football League with the Philadelphia Eagles and his uncle Tim Marcum is head coach and general manager of the Tampa Bay Storm.
