Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Tri-City Storm forced a split during a two-game weekend hosting the Waterloo Black Hawks in Kearney, Nebraska, winning by a 3-2 score Saturday to recover from a 4-2 decision which had gone against them the previous night.

A determined Tri-City effort in the first period gave the home team a lead for the first time at 5:13 as Tim Bonner flipped in a backhanded shot from close range. Waterloo tied the game a little more than two-and-a-half minutes later when Vince Hinostroza threaded a pass to Taylor Cammarata. With goalie Adam Wilcox going to the ice, Cammarata fired the puck under the crossbar. The game remained tied for just 35 second before Josh Henke scored from the left wing circle. The chance was created by Brian Ward hustling off the bench to make an offensive zone steal along the half wall.

The Storm were even quicker out of the shoot to start the second. The period's lone goal was recorded at the 29-second mark. Bonner lifted a fluttering shot over the glove of Eamon McAdam to make it a 3-1 game.

Waterloo made it exciting at the end. Eddie Wittchow hit Aaron Pearce with a breakaway pass at the Tri-City blue line. Toting the puck up the slot, Pearce scored on a wrister with 8:02 remaining. However, the Hawks could not draw even, in spite of outshooting the Storm in every period and 39-22 for the game.

The Hawks' next game could not be farther away from the site of Saturday's matchup and still be within the confines of the USHL. Waterloo's only visit to Youngstown, Ohio is Thursday. The opening faceoff against the Phantoms is scheduled for 6:15 (Central Time).
