Storm Makes Rookie Additions to Defensive Backfield

The Sioux Falls Storm is adding several new talents to its defensive backfield. Dante Calcote, Aldwin Foster-Retting, General Parnell, Marciel Surriel and Curtis Thomas will join an already experienced and talented group of cornerbacks and safeties for the 2012 season.

Dante Calcote played collegiate ball at Eastern Washington University, where he earned 2nd team All-Big Sky Conference and a National Championship in 2010. Calcote had an interception and averaged 23.0 yards per kick return his senior season.

Aldwin Foster-Rettig comes to the Storm after earning MIAA All-Conference Honorable Mention while playing for Northwest Missouri. In 2010, Foster-Rettig had 73 tackles and three forced fumbles. For his career, Foster-Rettig had seven interceptions for three touchdowns, and 219 tackles.

General Parnell joins the Storm after graduating for South Dakota State University. While at SDSU, Parnell had 23 tackles and four interceptions in 2009 before suffering a season ending injury. In 2010, Parnell played in seven games.

Marciel Surriel graduated from Northwest Missouri, and had 75 tackles for his career. In 2010, Surriel had 53 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and two interceptions. Surriel also finished his career with 1.5 sacks.

Curtis Thomas is a two-time All-SWAC Conference Player and a two-time All-American while playing for Texas Southern. In 2010, Thomas had 44 tackles, four interceptions, four tackles for loss and one forced fumble. He also helped his team to the 2010 SWAC Championship. In 2009, Thomas had 39 tackles, six interceptions and two sacks.

"We are excited about the rookie talent we have coming in," said Storm Owner Todd Tryon. "We've got some wide open positions. That's going to make camp that much more excting."
