Storm Loses Heartbreaker in Home Opener, 10-9

EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ â Last year, the New Jersey Storm swept the Columbus Landsharks in the season series. Tonight, Columbus (3-0) exacted some revenge by defeating the New Jersey Storm 10-9 in their home opener, in a National Lacrosse League game at Continental Airlines Arena. The Storm led 9-7 entering the fourth quarter, but were shut out in the final period.
The Storm (1-1), who remain in second place behind Colorado in the NLL's Eastern Division, will return home on Friday, January 10th to take on the New York Saints.
Forwards Brian Bendig (2G, 2A) and Mike Benedict (3G, 1A) led the Storm offensively. Defenseman Dan Chemotti also chipped in goal and two assists.
Columbus forward Jon Harasym scored the game-winner at 1:34 of the fourth quarter, while Dan Dawson headlined the Landsharks offense with a four-point performance (3G, 1A).
Storm net minder Derek General suffered the loss in goal despite a 46-save performance, while across the turf Mike Miron recorded the victory stopping 34 shots for Columbus.
The two clubs will meet again on Friday, February 14th at the Nationwide Arena in Columbus, Ohio.
Notes: Prior to tonight's contest, 12-year veteran and Storm defender Gordon Purdie was honored by the Storm's Governor Chip Santye in an on-field ceremony for playing in his 100th career professional indoor lacrosse game.
