Storm Lose Big After Allowing Eight Runs in 1st Inning
August 13, 2023 - California League (CalL)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
On a night the Lake Elsinore Storm were looking to bounce back after a tough loss, they went down big before the first three outs were even recorded.
The Visalia Rawhide had the first four batters reach base and score, putting the Storm down four with no outs. Storm starter, Wilton Castillo, would sandwich two outs between a single. However, he would allow the next four batters to reach base and give up four more runs in the process. Ultimately, this would be all the runs the Rawhide would need to win tonight's game.
But the Storm would do their best to fight back nonetheless. After giving up yet another run, they would score the first two runs of their night with a Samuel Zavala double. Zavala would have a fantastic night at the plate despite the loss. He would have a final line of 3-3 with two walks, three RBIs, two doubles, and one run scored.
Two more runs would score to cut the lead to five when Nik McClaughry hit a sac fly and Homer Bush Jr collected one of his two hits of the night. After getting one run back, McClaughry and Bush Jr. would once again combine to bring two runs home but would switch who sacrificed and who collected a hit. Unfortunately, this was not enough to bring home the win as they fell to the Visalia Rawhide by a final score of 10-7 after Samuel Zavala hit a 9th-inning home run.
These two teams will face off once more tomorrow afternoon as the Storm look to even the series and keep their dwindling playoff hopes alive before a crucial homestand against the Inland Empire 66ers which begans Tuesday, August 15th.
