
Storm Knocks out Power for 6th Straight

(Charlottetown, PE) The Island STORM made it 6 wins in a row as they defeated the Mississauga Power 109-103 in front of 1,718 fans at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown Sunday afternoon. It's the 2nd longest win streak by the STORM as they had 9 in a row at the end the 2012-13 season. The 109 points by the STORM also extends their NBL Canada record for consecutive games with 100 or more points at 14.
It was by no means easy as the Power came out as 3 point gunslingers taking a 25-21 lead at the end of the 1st quarter and a 54-46 lead into the break at halftime. The STORM fought back in the 3rd quarter cutting the Power lead to just 1.
Mike Martin had his best game in a STORM uniform scoring 25 points to lead the way to go along with 7 rebounds. Nick Evans also had a big game for the STORM with 22 points and 8 rebounds while Billy Rush scored 16 and grabbed 6 boards.
Meanwhile. Omar Strong was the big thorn in the STORMs side as he scored 44 points on 50% shooting from the floor including 11-22 from the 3 point line to lead the Power. Chad Posthumus had a double-double with 20 points and 13 rebounds.
The STORM are at home this Thursday and Friday with games a 7pm both nights which include Halifax on Thursday and a rematch of last years NBL Canada finals with the Windsor Express in on Friday night.
Other winners at the STORM game included Don Chandler who took home half of the total pot of $1,472 in the 50/50 draw and Brenda Millar who won the Sherwood Mortgage Brokers draw of paying her next months mortgage payment up to $1,000.
