Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): The Saint John Mill Rats bounced back in a big way in front of a record crowd, 122-109, over the London Lightning.
The Mill Rats were without the services of League MVP Anthony Anderson, who was injured the night before in Windsor, but that didn't stop them from a huge road win in front of an NBL Canada record 8,636 fans
Newly acquired guard Darin Mency filled in admirably with 28 big points.
Saint John led from wire to wire, building a lead as big as 21 points, and London never got within less than 10 in the fourth quarter.
"We put together a nearly complete game today, and now the guys are buying into doing the right things at the right time," said Mill Rats Head Coach Julian King. "Without Double-A everyone wanted to step up and contribute and the results were that we came together and played as a team."
The Mill Rats also were without 6'8 power forward Ricky Volcy who is still awaiting FIBA clearance.
In addition to Mency's 28, Tyrone Levett scored 23, Johnny Mayhane 22, Kenny Jones 21, Raheem Singleton 14, and Alex Johnson 10.
The Mill Rats improve to 8-13 on the season while the Lightning drops to 11-8.
Saint John now returns to Harbour Station to host the Moncton Miracles on Thursday the 15th and the Windsor Express on Saturday the 17th. Both games are at 7pm.
