Anaheim, CA - Arrowhead Pond of Anaheim announced today that the arena will be home to the National Lacrosse League's (NLL) Anaheim Storm this winter. The Storm is the newest professional sports team in Southern California and only the second National Lacrosse League team in the state of California.
The 2003-2004, regular season is January through April and includes a total of 16 games which are all played on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday. There will be a total of eight home games at the Arrowhead Pond beginning with the Storm against Arizona in the home opener on Saturday, January 10, 2004. The Anaheim Storm will be part of the National Lacrosse League's newly formed Western Division along with Arizona, Calgary, Colorado, San Jose and Vancouver.
NLL Commissioner, Jim Jennings; team Co-Governor and President, Chip Santye; Head Coach, Peter Vipond; and Storm players were in Anaheim to unveil the name and logo. Arrowhead Pond Assistant General Manager Mike O'Donnell will also serve as team Co-Governor. The management staff at Arrowhead Pond will oversee the business, marketing and day-to-day operations of the team. The team, formerly known as the New Jersey Storm, was relocated to Anaheim in July.
