Tampa Bay Storm News Release
TAMPA - Despite falling 42-35 to the Predators, Head Coach and General Manager Tim Marcum was pleased with the how the team preformed. "I thought we did a good job of hustling and hitting," said Marcum. "I liked the effort the guys put forth."
Each offense had the ball eight series for a total of 95 snaps between the two teams. Tampa Bay scored on five of eight series in 45 snaps while Orlando scored on seven of eight series in 40 snaps. Prior to the start of the scrimmage the teams participated in simulated kickoff scenarios.
The Storm offense was led by the effort of receiver Tyrone Timmons as he scored two touchdowns, one against the Predators first team defense and one against the second team defense. On the defensive side of the ball Marcus Owen came away with the lone sack.
Despite coming away with only one sack Marcum liked what he saw from the defensive line. "We had a good night with the pass rush particularly in the first two series," remarked Marcum. "The first team defensive line gave Stafford some pressure" as Predator quarterback Shane Stafford finished the night 12-of-23 with three touchdowns in four possessions.
Marcum added that he was pleased with the performance of quarterback Brett Dietz. "I thought that Brett had a good outing, it didn't help that three of our top receivers were on the sideline." Dietz finished the night 9-of-14 with one touchdown as he led the team to two scores on both of the drives he participated in.
Another bright spot for Tampa Bay was the kicking of Seth Marler. Marler hit the net on all of his kickoffs and converted all of his extra points.
The team will hold two more practices before the final roster must be turned into the league on Monday. Friday's practice will take place approximately 3 p.m. at Skyway Park and Saturday's practice will take place approximately 9:30 a.m. at Skyway Park.
The 2008 Storm Season, presented by Champs Sports, Where Sport Lives, will open March 7 with against the defending Southern Division Champion Georgia Force on Bill Currie Ford Field at the St. Pete Times Forum at 7:30 p.m. For tickets call 813.301.6600 or visit www.tampabaystorm.com.
