Birch Run, MI (December 31, 2004) â The Great Lakes Storm lost the game tonight against the Rockford Lightning 105-95 (6.0, 1.0) to move to 11-10 on the season. With the win, Rockford takes a hold on first place in the Eastern Conference. Rockford moves to 11-7 on the season.
After a big win Wednesday night over this same team, the Storm was unable to remain undefeated against the Eastern Conference teams at home. It was a close battle in the first quarter as teams traded baskets several times. The Lightning won the first quarter 24-23 behind seven points by Marshall Phillips. Rockford came out hot in the second quarter and pushed the lead to as many as 14 points. They won the second quarter 29-20 and took a 10-point lead into the locker room. The Storm made things interesting in the third quarter as they cut the lead to four points after three, winning the third 31-25. Mark Jones led the charge as he had 26 of his game- high 29 points after three quarters. The Storm cut the lead to four with 4:00 minutes remaining in the game, however, Keith Closs had two timely baskets in the final two minutes to lead the Lightning to victory. The Storm's next game is on Sunday, January 2nd against the Yakima Sun Kings. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the Birch Run Expo Center.
