(Charlottetown, PE): The Saint John Mill Rats played back to back games against the Island Storm, but tonight the Storm edged the Mill Rats, 129-127, in a barn burner.
Both teams were extremely hot from the field and 139 points on the scoreboard in the first half as the Storm led 74-65.
Saint John went on a 10-1 run to start the third quarter to tie the affair at 75-all. The Island held a narrow 97-95 lead to start the fourth.
In the fourth quarter it was Saint John's turn to go on a run, pushing out to a 110-100 lead with about 8 minutes remaining. Then the Island struck back with threes from Nick Okorie and two from Antonio Ballard and they took a 120-115 lead.
Saint John did not wilt and tied the game 127-127 on Casey Love's offensive rebound and put back with 22 seconds left.
The Storm scored with 5 seconds left and Saint John could not get a clean look off at the buzzer.
In the battle of potential MVP candidates, Anthony Anderson dropped 39 points and 9 assists in his second straight 37+ point game, and Antonio Ballard had 26 points and 12 rebounds.
Tyrone Levett scored 21, Jermaine Blackburn 17, Doug Herring Jr 16, Casey Love 15, and Eric Crookshank 10.
The teams combined to shoot 32-56 from three point range.
The loss drops Saint John to 15-10 and improves the Storm to a 12-13 record.
The Mill Rats are back in action at home on Sunday January 19th at 4PM against the two-time defending champion London Lightning. Tomorrow they head up to P.E.I. for a road game rematch against the Storm.
