Saint John Riptide News Release
(Saint John, NB): Jermaine Blackburn's offensive put back off the glass lifted the Saint John Mill Rats to a 106-104 victory over the Island Storm.
Blackburn's last basket preserved an incredible performance by Mill Rats guard Anthony Anderson who scored 37 points, including a dagger three pointer over Al Stewart that broke a 101-101 tie with 2 minutes left. But the Storm got a free throw from Steve Tchiengang, and an offensive rebound and lay in by Antonio Ballard, which tied the game at 104-104.
Saint John had possession with 1:23 remaining and missed twice, but offensive rebounds by Blackburn and Herring allowed them to run the clock down to go for the win. Anderson went for three and the run but the shot was errant. Blackburn jumped up and shot the rebound in softly off the glass with 0.4 seconds remaining. The Storm executed a final play but were unable to score.
In addition to Anderson's 37, Tyrone Levett added 18 points, Jermaine Blackburn 14, Doug Herring Jr 12, and Raheem Singleton 11. Antonio Ballard scored 27 for the Storm.
The Mill Rats improve to 15-9 while the Island Storm drop to 11-13.
The Mill Rats are back in action at home on Sunday January 19th at 4PM against the two-time defending champion London Lightning. Tomorrow they head up to P.E.I. for a road game rematch against the Storm.
