Storm defeated by Cleveland, 7-2

Chicago (Friday, April 15, 2005) – The Chicago Storm dropped a 7-2 result tonight to the Cleveland Force at the Wolstein Convocation Center in Cleveland, OH. The win clinched a playoff spot for Cleveland and dropped the Storm to 17-20 and fifth-place in the MISL. The Storm's playoff hopes dimmed as they will need to win both of their remaining games of the campaign and the St. Louis Steamers will need to drop their final three contests. The Storm will return to Chicago for an afternoon date with the Baltimore Blast on Saturday, April 16 at 3:00 p.m. CT at the UIC Pavilion. Prior to the game, the Storm will know if their playoff hopes are still alive as the St. Louis Steamers host the Milwaukee Wave at 1:05 p.m. CT.

"This was a tough loss again in Cleveland," said Storm Head Coach Frank Klopas. "We started out well and were able to score some goals and do a lot of the little things, but they capitalized on some mistakes and the game got away from us. We did not take advantage of our opportunities and that cost us."

The Cleveland Force started the contest by scoring two first quarter goals for a 2-0 advantage on the Storm. Cleveland defender Josh Timbers gathered a pass from Gary DePalma along the left wing. He blasted a shot to that hit the near post and ricocheted into the goal for a 1-0 lead at 7:17. Exactly two minutes later, Force forward Antonio Sutton hit a shot from the top of the arc that deflected off of Storm defender Denny Clanton. The shot bounced to the right as Storm goalkeeper Danny Waltman was diving to the left and the ball found the back of the net to double Cleveland's lead.

The Storm answered with two first quarter goals of their own to tie the game at 2-2. At 11:35 of the period Novi Marojevic powered a shot from the right wing to the far top corner past a diving Force goalkeeper Jim Larkin to cut the deficit to one. The Storm's German international David Schneider tallied his second goal of the season at 13:06 to knot the score.

The teams battled in the second quarter as both has opportunities to take the lead, but Waltman and Larkin made saves to stymie the opposing offense. Cleveland got the upper hand on Chicago at 8:19 of the second stanza when Aduato Neto headed home a goal for a 3-0 Force lead. The Force added two more goals in the quarter to extend the lead to 5-2 going into halftime. Genoni Martinez and Allen Eller tallied for the Force as they started to pull away from the Storm. Cleveland added two more goals in the third quarter from Aduato Neto and Robbie Aristodemo to make it 7-2.

The Storm will return to Chicago on Saturday, April 16 when they face the two- time defending MISL champion Baltimore Blast at 3:00 p.m. CT. The game can be heard live on www.chicagostorm.net in English and Univision Radio WRTO 1200 AM in Spanish.
