Sioux Falls Storm News Release
ALLEN, TX - The Sioux Falls Storm traveled south to battle the Allen Wranglers on Saturday night in one of the most anticipated games of the IFL season. The Storm battled back from an 18-point deficit to defeat the Wranglers 52-45.
The defenses for both teams started off the game strongly. On the opening drive of the game for the Wranglers, the Storm forced and recovered a fumble. The Storm was not able to capitalize on a touchdown following the turnover, and had to settle for a 27-yard field goal from Parker Douglass. The Wranglers answered back instantly, as Maurice Avery found wide receiver Ryan Moore for a 16-yard touchdown. On the Storm's next possession, quarterback Chris Dixon threw his first interception of the game to Freddy Solomon Jr. The Wranglers led after one quarter 7-3.
In the early parts of the second quarter, Allen's Darius Fudge fumbled before getting into the end zone. Following the Wrangler turnover, Dixon threw his second interception on the night to Freddy Solomon Jr. The first play for Allen following the interception resulted in a 45 yard passing touchdown to wide receiver Terrell Owens, giving the Wranglers a 14-3 lead. The Wranglers continued with the momentum scoring another 45 yard passing touchdown to Ryan Moore, extending the lead to 21-3. The Storm found a little bit of momentum at the 3:28 mark of the second quarter as running back Korey Williams rushed for a two yard touchdown cutting the lead to 21-10. Following a turnover on downs, the Storm put together a quick drive with 35 seconds to play in the half. Dixon found wide receiver Clinton Solomon for a Storm touchdown to cut the deficit to four. Not wanting to give the Storm any advantage at halftime, the Wranglers scored quickly with five seconds left in the half off a 25-yard touchdown from Avery to Luke McArdle. The Wranglers led the Storm 28-17 at halftime.
On the Storm's first possession of the second half, Dixon rushed for his eleventh rushing touchdown of the year. The touchdown cut the lead back down to four. Allen answered back with an 18-yard field goal from David Pino. Both teams continued to roll in the third quarter. The Storm tied the game at 31 following a receiving touchdown to Korey Williams. The tie would not last long, as Avery connected on his fifth touchdown on the night and his second touchdown to McArdle to take a 38-31 lead. In the late part of the third quarter, Dixon connected again with Solomon on a nine-yard touchdown that tied the game back at 38.
The Wranglers struck first in the fourth quarter as Terrell Owens was able to get open in the end zone. The Wranglers moved ahead 45-38 with eleven minutes to play. The following drive for the Storm resulted in Dixon's fourth passing touchdown, as he connected with Carl Sims from 42 yards out. The turning point of the game came on Allen's next drive when Storm cornerback Stewart Franks picked off Maurice Avery. The turnover gave the Storm the opportunity to take the lead for the first time since the beginning of the game, and they took it. Dixon ran in for his second rushing touchdown and gave the Storm a 52-45 lead. The Wranglers didn't go without a fight as they fought down to the four-yard line with under 90 seconds to play. The Storm defense sealed the victory as they held the Wrangler's on a fourth and goal.
The Storm stays undefeated with a 6-0 record, while Allen falls to 5-2. The Storm returns home on April 21st against the Nebraska Danger. Game time is scheduled for 7:05.
