Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA March 29, 2007 - After a closed session meeting on Tuesday night, the City of Lake Elsinore and the Lake Elsinore Storm reached an agreement that will allow the Storm to take over stadium operations at The Diamond, relieving the city of a significant financial burden.
As a result of the deal, the Storm will develop a separate entity, Diamond Stadium Group, with Bruce Kessman taking on the role as General Manager. The new company will be looking to attract a wide range of events including festivals, swap meets, concerts, baseball tournaments, circuses, and holiday celebrations to the stadium in an attempt to make The Diamond an entertainment hub.
"We are excited about this new opportunity and look forward to bringing new events to The Diamond," said Kessman. "With the growth of our local communities, there is a need for additional entertainment options. This recent agreement will open a window of opportunity to do just that - provide a variety of entertainment to area residents."
With $800,000 a year going towards operating and maintaining the facility, and $2 million a year spent paying off the debt accrued to build the stadium, the city is pleased to eliminate a huge portion of their annual expense. The city will still be responsible for the debt payments and has also agreed to give the Storm $400,000 over the next four years to help the team ease into the 10-year deal. In addition, the city will allocate $300,000 annually for capital improvements on the stadium over the next 10 years.
Individual game tickets are now on sale for the upcoming season, so make plans to visit The Diamond and reserve your seats today. Tickets can be purchased at the Storm ticket office, over the phone, or online at www.stormbaseball.com. Office hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Storm ticket office will also be open 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Saturday leading up to Opening Day on April 12.
