Great Lakes Storm News Release

Birch Run, MI (January 6, 2005) – The Great Lakes Storm won the game tonight against the Michigan Mayhem 120-91 (7.0, 0.0) to move to 12-11 on the season. With the return of several key players out with injuries, the Storm looked as good as any team in the CBA this season. Michigan dropped to 5-17 and things don't get any easier as they play the Sioux Falls Skyforce at home tomorrow night.

With the return of Kasib Powell, Ezra Williams, and Willie Simms, the Storm came out on fire and it looked like these guys had played together all season. The Storm jumped out to a quick lead and they won the first quarter 36-17 behind 13 points from CBA-leading scorer Mark Jones. The Storm pushed the lead to as many as 23 points in the second and went into halftime with a comfortable 62-41 margin, winning the second quarter 26-24. Kasib Powell, who sat out the last three games due to injury, led the Storm with 17 points at halftime. The lead was as large as 28 in the third and the Storm won the quarter 29-25. With a big lead in the fourth quarter, the Storm continued to battle as they looked to sweep the quarter points from the Mayhem for the third time this season. They would do just that as they won the fourth quarter 29-25. Willie Simms, playing in his first game since the season opener, had a solid game also as he posted 14 points, six rebounds, and four assists.

The Storm's next game is on Saturday, January 8th against the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Tip-off is set for 7:05 at the Birch Run Expo Center.
