Sioux Falls Storm News Release
The Sioux Falls Storm is excited to announce the signing of Eric Ware, Tommy Chavis, Jocques Richardson and Tyler Knight for the 2011 season.
Eric Ware joins the Sioux Falls Storm from both the University of Central Arkansas and the Edmonton Eskimos of the CFL. At UCA, Ware was the Bears' leading receiver his senior year with 50 receptions for 758 yards and five touchdowns. Ware was also 10th in school history with 103 career receptions for just over 1,400 yards, in addition to 190 yards rushing on 18 carries.
Defensive lineman Tommy Chavis comes to the Storm via a trade with the La Crosse Spartans. Chavis played in 12 games for the Spartans in 2010, collecting 41 tackles, with 25 solos and 16 assists. In addition, Chavis also had four sacks and a forced fumble. Chavis is a graduate of the University of Missouri, becoming a productive member of the Tiger defense. He had 42 tackles his junior year, including a season-high six tackles against Texas A&M, and a sack against Nebraska.
Knight played at Mississippi Valley State, and in the NAFL and IFL before joining Sioux Falls. Knight was named SWAC Defensive Player of the Year, 1st-Team All-SWAC, and was an All-American in 2005. He was also 1st-Team All-SWAC in 2006. In the NAFL, he was an All-Star as part of the Arkansas Rhinos in 2009. Knight spent time with Calgary of the CFL and Arkansas of the IFL last season.
Coming over from Arena Football, Jocques Richardson will look to add to the defense and return game for Sioux Falls. Spending time in the AFL2, Richardson played for the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings and Daytona Beach Thunderbirds. In 2008, Richardson was one of the top defenders for the Thunderbirds, recording over 30 tackles and leading the team in interceptions for much of the season.
"These four are experienced vets that will be coming in to compete," said Storm Owner, Todd Tryon. "We expect this group to fill some holes on both sides of the ball."
