JUPITER, FL (June 14, 2015) - With Friday night's thrilling 1-0 victory in 10 innings, the Stone Crabs clinched the first half in the Florida State League's South Division for the first time since 2010. They arrived at Roger Dean Stadium on Saturday, and a letdown was to be expected. But after a rough first inning, the bats exploded for 16 hits in a one-sided 9-2 victory to take the series. Sunday afternoon's game wasn't much prettier for the Hammerheads, and Charlotte's third seven run inning of the season carried them to yet another 9-2 win for their seventh sweep of the first half.

Facing All-Star Jarlin Garcia in the first, the game began on an error by Hammerheads second baseman Rehiner Cordova off a slow chopper by Braxton Lee. A single by Kean Wong and a strikeout of Granden Goetzman brought up Jake Bauers, who singled into right for his 34th run batted in and a 1-0 lead. Pat Blair soon sent a line drive to shortstop Justin Bohn, and Bauers was doubled off of first for the final out.

In the never-ending second inning, Maxx Tissenbaum led off with a base hit up the middle. A walk to Yoel Araujo and a one out single by number nine hitter Carter Burgess loaded the bases for Lee, who slashed a single into left for a 2-0 lead. Wong's bleeder rolled up the grass at first for an infield single and an RBI. Garcia (2-2) then walked Goetzman to bring in another run to make it 4-0, effectively ending his afternoon after just an inning and a third. Miguel Del Pozo's day didn't start much better, and he balked with the bases loaded to bring home Lee for a 5-0 'Crabs lead. Bauers' groundout to the right of the mound made it 6-0, and an infield single by Pat Blair plus a throwing error from Cordova scored Goetzman. The final blow came from Tissenbaum, who collected his second hit of the inning with a run scoring single into left.

The 8-0 cushion allowed Taylor Guerrieri to relax and keep the ball in the strike zone for his four innings on the mound. He surrendered a two-out RBI single to designated hitter Harold Riggins in the fourth, but that was all the Hammerheads would get off the former first round pick. The only other runs came in the sixth when Bauers brought in his third run with a two out single off righty Tyler Higgins to score Wong for a 9-1 advantage. Jupiter answered back in the bottom half when Yuniel Ramirez sent a sacrifice fly to right off Isaac Gil (1-1), who followed Guerrieri for two innings. The Stone Crabs were retired in order over the final three frames by Hammerheads closer Tyler Kinley, and Josh Kimborowicz countered with three scoreless innings for the 'Crabs as he picked up his first save. At 43-20, Charlotte has matched its best first-half win total, when they finished 43-26 for the first half crown in 2010.

The Stone Crabs return home on Monday night at 7:00 PM when they welcome the Lakeland Flying Tigers to Charlotte Sports Park for the start of a four-game series. Former Stone Crab Matt Moore (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his third rehab start against Tigers lefthander Kevin Ziomek (4-5, 4.74 ERA).
