Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Charlotte Stone Crabs set a new attendance record for Minor League Baseball in Charlotte County with 7,340 fans in attendance for their game against the Fort Myers Miracle on Saturday, July 4, at Charlotte Sports Park.
The previous single-game Minor League record was 7,116, which the Stone Crabs set earlier this year on their Inaugural Season Opening Day on April 9. The team also saw their total attendance for 2009 surpass the 100,000 mark during the game as they now sit at 107,315 for the year.
The capacity crowd fell just short of the all-time Charlotte Sports Park record of 7,621, which was set by the Tampa Bay Rays on March 22, when they faced the New York Yankees during Spring Training earlier this year.
Fans at Saturday's game were treated to a 9-2 victory from the Stone Crabs over their I-75 division rival Fort Myers Miracle, and a special Independence Day Fireworks Spectacular sponsored by First Financial and Miller Lite immediately after the game.
Stone Crabs players also wore special red, white and blue jerseys to commemorate the Independence Day contest, and the jerseys were auctioned off during the game with the proceeds benefitting the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation. More than $3,400 was raised through the auction with the highest individual jersey going for $275.
The Stone Crabs continue their current homestand with a three-game series against the Sarasota Reds starting tonight at 5:35 p.m. For information on tickets, please call 941-206-HITS or visit www.stonecrabsbaseball.com.
