Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
JUPITER -- The Charlotte Stone Crabs scored early and often on their way to an 8-5 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads on Tuesday at Roger Dean Stadium.
It was a good night all around for the offense as eight of the nine men in the order collected at least one base hit. Cody Rogers, Riccio Torrez and Hector Guevara each had two RBI's apiece, while Derek Dietrich and Luke Bailey drove in single runs as well.
Guevara extended his season-high hitting streak to 11-games with a two-run single in the sixth inning. That hit tied Guevara with Riccio Torrez for the longest hitting streak by a Stone Crabs hitter this season.
Despite the early lead, starter Victor Mateo was unable to make it through the five innings necessary to pick up a win. He lasted 4-1/3 innings, but a handful of errors made just one of the four runs he allowed unearned.
Charlotte won for the sixth time in 10 tries against the Hammerheads thanks to that offense and some quality relief. Jimmy Patterson (4-3) allowed just one run over three innings of work to pick up the win. Chris Rearick got the final five outs to earn his 13th save of the year.
Much of the damage done by Charlotte hitters was inflicted on Jupiter starter Chad James (3-4). The lefty was tagged for six earned runs in just four innings of work in suffering the loss.
Phil Wunderlich remained red-hot at the plate, enjoying a three-hit night and scoring three runs as well. He is now batting .407 (24-for-59) with 15 runs scored in his past 19 games.
The series continues on Wednesday as the Stone Crabs send righty Albert Suarez to the mound against lefty Edgar Olmos (1-4) of the Hammerheads. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
