Stolarz Stops 18 of 20; NAHL U18 Selects Win 4-3

TROY, MI - Corpus Christi IceRays goaltender Anthony Stolarz stopped 18 of 20 shots as the NAHL U18 Select team, coach by Justin Quenneville won their first game of the NAHL Showcase 403 over the West Division on Monday night.

The U18 Selects drew first blood 13:27 into the game off the stick of Chris Leibinger to take a 1-0 advantage.

The West evened the game up at one a piece at the 15:02 mark of the first as Sean O'Rourke beat Anthony Stolarz to head into the intermission all tied up at one.

The U18 Selects dominated the second period scoring three consecutive goals. Jake Horton, Pavlo Padakin, and Justin Woods all scored as the U18's took a 4-1 lead after 40 minutes of play.

However, in the final period, the West Division made things interesting. Gage Christianson scored with 3:18 left in the game to split the lead in half.

The West pulled within a goal as only 1:17 remained in the game. The U18 Selects held on though for the slim 4-3 victory.

IceRays standout goaltender Anthony Stolarz stopped 18 of 20 shots in the win. The Selects play tomorrow against the Central Division at 1:00PM. The Central squad beat the South Division earlier today 7-4.

Brandon Smith recorded a shot in the victory.
