ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saint Louis FC Academy U14 IL player Josh Maher has been called into the U.S. Soccer Youth National Teams U14 Talent Identification Central Region Mini-Camp from March 14-18 in Frisco, Texas.

The camp is the second of three mini-camps that are part of U.S. Soccer's new Youth National Team U14 Talent Identification Development program. There will be 80 players at the camp from the Central Region and split into four 20-man teams based on defined scouting regions-North Central, South Central, Midwest and Southeast. After a day of training, the four teams will play each other in round-robin competition.

"I'm excited for the opportunity to represent the players and coaches at Saint Louis FC at this camp," said Maher. "I'm also looking forward to playing with some of the best players in the country."

In addition to the on-field competition, the mini-camp will focus on off-field education with players introduced to USYNT principles of play, position profiles, and goal-setting to help them through their development. The players will also be introduced to U.S. Soccer's High Performance department where a sport scientist will be on-hand throughout the event to take measurements and educate the players about the impact of growth and maturation on development, as well as best practices for nutrition and recovery. The players will also visit the new National Soccer Hall of Fame that recently opened at Toyota Stadium in Frisco.

Most of the players called into the mini-camp were identified at last fall's Development Academy Central Regional Showcase and further evaluated at YNT Identification Centers as part of the scouting process prior to being called into the mini-camp.

"We are very excited for Josh to have earned this opportunity to represent Saint Louis FC within the U14 Youth National team program," said STLFC Academy Director Blake Decker. "Josh's ability to read the game and leadership qualities to coach those around him make him an asset to any team or player with which he plays. Furthermore, he has a tremendous mentality and growth-minded approach to his own development which allows him to make consistent and continual gains."
