Sting's Miron, Maddalena win NLL awards
March 10, 2004 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Arizona Sting News Release
The Arizona Sting captured three of the four weekly awards handed out by the National Lacrosse League for week #11 action. Goalie Mike Miron was named the Overall and Defensive player of the week for his 38 save performance in a 14-4 win over Rochester this past weekend. Pat Maddalena, Arizona's leading scorer, was named the offensive player of the week.
Miron held the Knighthawks to four goals including scoreless first and third quarters in the victory. He tied a league record for goals allowed in a regular season game with four. It is only the tenth time in league history a team was held to only four goals in a regular season game. Arizona's All Star goalie leads the league in saves per game averaging 39.5 and has a goals against average of 12.1. This is the second time this season Miron has been selected as defensive player of the week. He was rewarded for his week one performance versus the Vancouver Ravens in a 16-12 victory.
While Miron held up the defensive end versus Rochester, Maddalena paced the offense scoring three goals and adding five assists for eight points in the victory. This season, Maddalena has 54 points, scoring 29 goals and adding 25 assists. This is Maddalena's first award this season; during the 2002-03 campaign Maddalena captured two offensive player of the week awards, one overall player of the week award and a player of the month award.
Arizona (5-6) is 1.5 games back from the third and final playoff spot in the West. The Sting travel to Buffalo (7-4) to meet the first place East Division Bandits, this Saturday night at HSBC Arena.
