South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today select promotional dates for the 2013-14 season including fan-favorites Opening Night/Alumni Game, Pack the House and Pink in the Rink. The full promotional schedule will be announced at a later date.
The Stingrays kick off the home schedule of their 21st season of hockey in the Lowcountry on Saturday, October 26 with Opening Night, Stingrays Alumni Game, Zooperstars! and magnet schedule giveaway at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. Hall of Fame players such as Jason Fitzsimmons, Dave Seitz, Brett Marietti, Nate Kiser, Rob Concannon and Matt Scherer along with fan-favorites Pierre-Luc O'Brien, Johann Kroll, Trevor Johnson and more return to the Coliseum ice for a pregame alumni game before the Stingrays battle the Greenville Road Warriors later that night. The world-famous Zooperstars! will perform during the intermissions and the first 5,000 fans receive a 2013-14 magnet schedule! Click here to see the Zooperstars! in action!
Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy presented by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), Department of Neurosciences and the South Carolina Advocates for Epilepsy (S.A.F.E.) returns on Saturday, November 16. This season, Stingrays players will wear special purple Epilepsy Awareness jerseys with a live postgame jersey auction. A portion of the proceeds benefit MUSC's Research and Education in Epilepsy Fund (R.E.E.F.) and S.A.F.E. Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy will also host a silent auction on the Coliseum's main concourse during the game. The one-night-only jerseys will be revealed at MUSC in downtown Charleston in early November.
"My son, Erick, was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2007 and disappointed with the lack of epilepsy awareness and support in the Lowcountry, I wanted to find a way to reach and teach a lot of people at one time," said Karen St. Marie, Founder and Executive Director of S.A.F.E. "Being a Stingrays season ticket holder, a hockey game seemed like the perfect venue. Our first Hockey Heroes for Epilepsy event was held in 2010 and was a huge success. Proceeds from the games and silent auctions have enabled S.A.F.E. to establish chapters in Charleston, Columbia, Greenville, Myrtle Beach and Hilton Head. S.A.F.E. has also donated approximately $30,000 to R.E.E.F. at MUSC."
Pack the House Night, where all tickets are $5 and free parking, comes back on Saturday, January 25. On Saturday, February 22, the Stingrays celebrate the 8th Annual Pink in the Rink presented by East Cooper Medical Center benefitting Susan G. Komen Lowcountry. Players will skate on pink ice and wear special Pink in the Rink jerseys with a live postgame auction to help fight breast cancer. Pink Packs, the exclusive ticket packages, and Pink in the Rink merchandise will be available later in the season. The jerseys will be unveiled at Easter Cooper Medical Center in Mt. Pleasant in early February.
"East Cooper Medical Center and The Charleston Breast Center are proud to sponsor the South Carolina Stingrays 'Pink in the Rink Night,'" said Jason Alexander, CEO of East Cooper Medical Center. "Next season will mark the fifth year that we have sponsored this event to help raise funds for Susan G. Komen Lowcountry and to bring awareness about the importance of early detection of breast cancer."
