Colorado Eagles News Release
The Colorado Eagles have announced that they have re-signed rookie Greg Gardner for the 2013-14 season. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward was added to the Eagles roster as an amateur, prior to the playoffs last March. Despite his late arrival, the 26 year-old Gardner made an immediate impact on the score sheet. In his five regular season games with Colorado, Gardner netted four goals and an assist. He would continue to put-up numbers in the post season, notching three assists in six playoff contests.
"We couldn't be happier to be returning a player like Greg Gardner. He was highly-touted coming out of the collegiate and major junior ranks and he lived up to that billing in the brief time that he spent with us last season," said Eagles president and general manager Chris Stewart. "I believe that he has the potential to be one of the best rookies in the league this upcoming season," added Stewart.
Prior to signing with the Eagles last season, Gardner was coming off a five-year collegiate career at the University of Alberta, with one season spent as the team's captain.
Gardner recorded 72 points (33-39-72) in 133 games with the Golden Bears. Prior to playing for the University of Alberta, he tallied 119 points (54-65-119) in 338 games over five seasons in the Western Hockey League, in addition to seeing five game's worth of action with the Portland Pirates of the American Hockey League (as a 20-year old).
"Last year I came down for the last month of the season and in that time I realized what a great organization Colorado has. The fan base and the area are amazing," said Gardner. "I'm really looking forward to the opportunity to come back and be a part of this team."
Gardner joins Kyle Ostrow, Dylan Hood and Parker Stanfield as players who are officially under contract with the Eagles for the 2013-14 season.
