Stingers Reach Halfway Point of 2022 Season

Edmonton Stingers News Release

EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Stingers of the CEBL have reached the halfway point in their 2022 season after a 92-84 loss to the Ottawa Blackjacks last night. The team now sits at 5-5, good for 5th in the league.

The 1-7 Ottawa Blackjacks managed to stun the Stingers behind a 23-point scoring outburst from Walt Lemon Jr., who pushed the Blackjacks to a 22-point lead in the 3rd. The Stingers regrouped, and cut the lead to just 6 heading into the Elam ending, but it would prove too little as a pair of Chad Posthumus free throws iced the game for the Blackjacks.

Looking ahead, the Edmonton Stingers have ten more games in their schedule. Only three games separate the seventh place Rattlers (4-4) from the top seeded Hamilton Honey Badgers (7-2), creating a every-game-counts bottleneck in the standings.

This year, the first place team receives an automatic bid to Championship Weekend alongside the hosting Ottawa Blackjacks. Teams in 2nd-8th will duke it out in a single elimination bracket to claim the final spots to the nation's capital on August 10-14th. The bottom two teams (host team notwithstanding) will be eliminated from playoffs entirely.

The Stingers will return to the Expo on June 30th to take on the winless Newfoundland Growlers at 7:00 p.m. The Stingers will host open practice on June 28 at 6:45 p.m at King's University and on June 29th at 6:45 p.m at the EXPO Centre. All members of the media are invited to attend either practice and interview players and staff. The Stingers ask that any interview requests be made in advance to the Stingers Marketing Manager Alex Jap.
