Sting News and Notes

Standing Tall

The battle for supremacy in the Eastern Conference is heating up as only one and a half games separate first place from last place. Charlotte (7-6; .538) currently sits in a three-way tie with Detroit and Indiana in first place. Connecticut is just percentage points behind at 8-7 (.533) while New York is a half game back at 7-7 (.500). Washington rounds out the standings only one and a half games back at 5-7 (.417)

Guys Night Out

The Charlotte Sting are inviting all guys 18 years of age and older to come out and see the Sting take on Diana Taurasi and the Phoenix Mercury on Thursday, July 1 at 7:00 p.m. for FREE. Complimentary tickets can be picked up at the Charlotte Coliseum box office on the day of the game.

TSB Hits Milestone

Tammy Sutton-Brown scored a lay-up with 2:09 left in the first half on June 26 vs. Indiana to record her 1,000th career WNBA point. She becomes one of 71 WNBA players to accomplish this feat, joining current Sting players Andrea Stinson (3,229), Allison Feaster (1,666) and Dawn Staley (1,590) in the thousand point club. In addition, Sutton-Brown recorded a new career high 13 rebounds on Saturday, June 26 vs. Indiana.

Getting Defensive

The Sting turned in a record setting defensive performance on Saturday, June 26 as they held the Fever to only 37 points on 18.8% (9-48) shooting from the floor. The Fever's nine made field goals set a new all-time WNBA low in field goals made. The previous all-time low was 10, recorded three times (last time -Washington vs. Miami on August 8, 2001). The Fever's 37 points was the lowest point total allowed in the WNBA this season, the lowest point total ever recorded by a Sting opponent and the fewest points ever scored by the Fever. The Fever's field goal percentage (.188) also ranks as the lowest in the WNBA this season and the second lowest in WNBA history.
