Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Tuesday the re-signing of veteran defenseman Scott Self to a one-year contract.

"Scott is a big part of our team," said Coach Hamley. "He's been great on and off the floor and we're looking for another big year from him in terms of production and leadership. Scott is a strong guy that runs well and can put the ball in the net. We're going to rely heavily on him to anchor our defense this season."

Self was chosen to represent the West Division at the 2005 NLL All-Star Game in Calgary, but was unable to attend due to injury. In only 13 games last season, the 6'2", 205 lb. native of Peterborough, Ontario, led all Sting defenders with 19 points (4 goals and 15 assists). In the playoffs, Self tallied 3 assists in as many games while shutting down opponents' top scorers as Arizona went on to become West Division Champions before succumbing to the defending Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final.

Originally acquired in the 2003 Ottawa Rebel Dispersal Draft, Self has been a member of the Sting for the past two seasons, registering 7 goals and 27 assists for 34 points in 29 games. He's also totaled 35 penalty minutes and 135 loose balls during his tenure in Arizona.

Originally drafted by the Buffalo Bandits in the 4th round (28th overall) in the 1999 NLL Entry Draft, Self enters 2006 with 17G-41A-58P and 58 PIM in 61 career NLL games split between Arizona, Ottawa, New York and Buffalo.

The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). For more information, please call (480) 563-7825 or visit ArizonaSting.com.
