GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Monday the signing of defenseman Chris McKay to a one-year contract.
"We're pleased to be bringing Chris back," said Hamley. "He's coming off a good rookie season and he was a big part of our playoff run last year. We look forward to seeing his role with the Sting increase in the upcoming season."
As a rookie in 2005, McKay played in12 regular season games for Arizona, registering 4G-8A-12P-6PIM. In the playoffs, the 6', 180 lb. defender tallied a pair of assists to go along with 11 loose balls in 3 games as the Sting made a dramatic run to the Champion's Cup Final.
McKay played for the Butler University Bulldogs in Indiana prior to commencing his career in the NLL. The Victoria, British Columbia native was honored with a First-Team NCAA Division I All-Star selection following his senior year in which he also served as team captain.
Originally drafted by the Vancouver Ravens in the first round (7th overall) of the 2004 NLL Entry Draft, the Sting acquired McKay from the Rochester Knighthawks on January 7, 2005, in exchange for a second-round pick at the 2005 NLL Entry Draft. The Knighthawks had selected him with the fifth-overall pick in the Ravens' dispersal draft in December of 2004.
The Arizona Sting is a professional indoor lacrosse team playing in the National Lacrosse League (NLL). In only their second season in Arizona (after re-locating from Columbus, Ohio), the Sting finished the 2005 season with a 9-7 regular-season record prior to going on to win the West Division Championship before losing to the Toronto Rock in the Champion's Cup Final (NLL title game).
