Sting re-sign Curt Malawsky

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday the signing of forward Curt Malawsky to one-year contract. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"Curt is definitely a big part of our team and we're happy to be bringing him back," said Hamley. "He has a lot of experience in this league and his veteran leadership is a great asset to us on such a young team."
The Sting signed Malawsky midway through last season and he contributed 10G-11A-21P in 8 games played with Arizona down the stretch. The 36-year old also registered 1G-4A-5P in two playoff games with the Sting. A veteran of nine NLL seasons, Malawsky has tallied 210G-228A-438P in 125 career games as a member of the Rochester Knighthawks, Vancouver Ravens, San Jose Stealth, and Arizona Sting. The 6'1", 175 lb. forward's most productive season came in 2002 when, as a member of the Knighthawks, he scored 31 goals and dished out 29 assists for 60 points in 16 games played. In 2001, Malawsky set an NLL record by scoring 6 game-winning goals in a single season.
Curt's younger brother Derek, also a forward, was acquired by Arizona in a trade with the San Jose Stealth last month. The two have previously played together in San Jose and Rochester, appearing in the 2003 Champion's Cup Final with the Knighthawks where they fell to the Toronto Rock by a score of 8-6. The brothers combined for 14 points (6G-8A) during Rochester's playoff run that season.
