Arizona Sting News Release

GLENDALE, ARIZONA --- Arizona Sting Head Coach and General Manager Bob Hamley announced Thursday the signing of defenseman Bruce Murray to a one-year contract, pending league approval. As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Bruce was a big part of our defense last year and we're happy to be bringing him back," said Hamley. "He brings a lot to the table in terms of size, strength, and dependability. We'll definitely be looking for him to provide direction and leadership for some of our younger guys this season."

Last season, his first in Arizona, Murray registered career highs in goals (3) and points (10) while playing all 16 games for the Sting. His 7 assists tied a career high. The 6'1", 260 lb. defender also scooped up 77 loose balls on the season, a total that placed him sixth on the team. In the playoffs, Murray registered 2G-0A-2P-16LB in two games played. The 29-year old scored the game-winning goal against Portland in the West Division Semi-Final as the Sting beat the Lumberjax 14-11. In 71 career games as a member of the Sting, Anaheim Storm, and Vancouver Ravens, Murray has tallied 5G-27A-32P in addition to 311 LB and 153.

Originally signed by Vancouver as a free agent in 2001, Arizona acquired Murray from Minnesota on August 24, 2005 in a trade that sent forward Noah Taylor to the Swarm.
