Charlotte Sting News Release
The Charlotte Sting are teaming up with Youth and Family Services to provide a Family Fun Day for 15 Charlotte-area foster families. Each Sting player and coach will be paired with a family for an afternoon of fun and games. The event will take place on Saturday, July 16 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Latta Park (610 East Park Avenue, Charlotte).
"It is such a rewarding feeling to include foster families in the Sting Family Fun Day. The best demonstration of "family" is when individuals take the responsibility to open their homes and their hearts to children in need and provide them with a safe and loving environment," said LaRita Barber, Vice President of Community Relations for the Sting. "This event is an opportunity to show appreciation and embrace our community's children in a significant way."
The Sting players and coaches will meet the foster families at Latta Park and participate in a variety of activities, including basketball, arts and crafts and face painting. A cookout, sponsored by Bojangles', Coca-Cola Consolidated and Costco, is also planned.
Family Fun Day was created to provide a fun day in the park for children. Celebrating the joy of families, the event will also recognize foster parents for their role in providing a safe and loving environment for children. Approximately 90 family members will take part in the activities with the Sting players and coaches.
"The opportunity to meet professional athletes is rare," said Bet Levine, a community services supervisor with YFS. "The YFS children and foster families will be able to cherish and share this memory throughout their lifetimes. They are looking forward to the opportunity to have a positive, fun-focused activity created just for them."
The Charlotte Sting return home to host the Houston Comets on Sunday, July 17 at 4 p.m. at the Charlotte Coliseum. Tickets can be purchased at the Charlotte Coliseum Box Office, all TicketMaster locations, by calling 1-877-WNBA-TIX or by logging onto www.charlottesting.com.
